Tails (Sonic Cinematic Universe) (2024)

Tails: Everyone calls me Tails. You're probably wondering why.

Sonic: Let me guess, because of the extra tail?

— Miles "Tails" Prower and Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Miles Prower, better known as Tails, is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. He is an anthropomorphic alien fox with two distinct twin-tails, which allow him to fly. This ability, however, resulted in his alienation from the people of his village, believing himself to be an outsider. After discovering Sonic the Hedgehog, however, Tails found a hero to look up to, whose own unique powers helped him to see his weirdness in a positive light. When later learning that Knuckles the Echidna was after Sonic, Tails tracked Sonic down to warn him. In the process, he would join Sonic on his adventure to protect the Master Emerald from Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles, becoming close friends with Sonic along the way. After later defeating Dr. Robotnik, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles formed a new order to protect the Master Emerald from evil together.

"Everyone calls me 'Tails,' you're probably wondering why.""Let me guess: because of the extra tail?"
―Tails and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]

Miles "Tails" Prower is an intellectual yellow Fox from a distant planet where he was often ridiculed by his fellow villagers for his two tails which he could rotate to achieve flight. After discovering Sonic the Hedgehog's energy surge, Tails tracked his new idol to Earth and arrived on the planet through a ring portal.

Upon realizing someone was in pursuit of Sonic, Tails rescued him from Knuckles the Echidna and explained the legend of the Master Emerald and its immense power. Tails joined Sonic in finding and securing where they eventually confronted Knuckles and Doctor Eggman, who betrayed Knuckles to seize the emerald. Now allied with Knuckles, Tails flew him and Sonic to Green Hills with the Tornado biplane to stop Eggman's Giant Eggman Robot, powered by the emerald. Following Sonic's plan, Tails distracted Eggman to weaken him. Despite the robot briefly overpowering them, Tails witnessed Super Sonic destroy it. Afterwards, Tails, Knuckles, and Sonic formed Team Sonic, vowing to protect the emerald.

Tails and his friends would later go to a junkyard to investigate strange noises a Flying Egg named Unit had been making, so the team had to face it. However, Tails and Sonic learned about Unit's passion for poems, Tails convincing Sonic to stay with the friendly Badnik.

Tails tried to help Sonic and Maddie get Knuckles adjusted to his new life on Earth, although the Echidna ended up being grounded by turning the Wachowski Residence into a warrior duel.

If these readings are accurate, he's here. I've found him! I just hope I'm not too late.

Miles Prower, also known as Tails, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Tom Wachowski) of the Sonic Cinematic Universe.

He is an anthropomorphic yellow-orange fox who can fly with his two tails and quickly becomes Sonic's companion and sidekick. He was shunned on his own planet for his two tails being seen as weird and was left lonely, but was inspired by Sonic after seeing his bravery in fighting Dr. Robotnik and joins up with Sonic after learning Knuckles is hunting him down. He is the film's adaptation of Tails from the video game franchise.

He is voiced and motion-captured by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who also currently voices his mainstream counterpart, Charmy Bee, Sora Takenouchi, Jazz Fenton, Wasp, Jody Irwin, Ino Yamanaka, and Emile Agreste. In Sonic Drone Home, he was voiced by Alicyn Packard, who also voices Jibanyan, Toodles Galore, Windblade, Neon Red and Hinaichi.

Appearance[]

Tails is a young, anthropomorphic fox with two tails instead of one. He has mostly amber fur with white fur around his muzzle, belly, and the tips of his tails. He also has sky blue eyes, triangular ears with white canals, and three locks of hair on his forehead. For attire, Tails wears white gloves with a light gray band around each wrist, and shoes that are red from the heel to the middle and white from the middle to the toe with dark gray soles. In the first film, each shoe was lined with a gray strip around the ankle, fastened by a small gold buckle. In the second film, the shoes each have red laces and light gray lining around them, and the ankle strips are absent. His design in the first film is similar to his classic mainline counterpart.

Personality[]

Tails is a determined and plucky young fox, being willing to face the unknown on multiple worlds across the galaxy and deadly villains, all in an attempt to find Sonic, no matter what. He is also quite logical and intelligent, as seen by how he steadily narrowed his search for Sonic by thinking things through and using what he learned along the way. He is similarly greatly resourceful, as exemplified by the various gadgets he has invented and his ability to analyze the options in critical situations. However, despite his intelligence, Tails can be slightly clueless, such as not realizing why his nickname is obvious. He is also slightly lacking in social etiquette, as evidenced by how he spied on Sonic for months. Tails was once insecure about his extra tail, but after seeing how Sonic uses his weird quality, his super speed, to be a hero, Tails came to believe that his own weird quality is not so bad. Due to his insecurity over being shunned for his genetic quirk, Tails possessed as well low self-esteem and some shyness, claiming that he is not as brave as Sonic or a "field guy" in spite of his numerous feats. Since meeting Sonic, however, Tails has begun to come out of his shell and believe more in himself thanks to the encouragement and assurance from Sonic. Due to the ostracization by others for an extra tail, Tails grew up lonely, yearning for acceptance and belonging. Tails achieves this first by becoming friends with Sonic, then Knuckles, and then becoming a part of the Wachowski family. Finally having friends and a family, Tails treasures the love and relationships he has.

Concept And Creation[]

According to Takashi Iizuka, the current design for Tails was developed after Sonic was redesigned into his current appearance for the Sonic the Hedgehog film series.

History[]

Past[]

Tails was born on a distant planet with a genetic abnormality that gave him two tails instead of one. Because of this, he was given the nickname "Tails", though he did not have any friends growing up in his home village because everyone thought his two tails were weird.

After detecting an overload of chaos energy coming from Earth, Tails discovered Sonic the Hedgehog, whom he observed as he defeated Dr. Robotnik. Seeing how Sonic was weird, too, due to his super speed, but was regarded as a legend, Tails was encouraged to believe that his own weird quirk was not so bad after all. Following that, he would spy on Sonic over the next 8 months, learning everything about him. When he learned that Knuckles the Echidna, the most dangerous warrior in the galaxy, was after Sonic, whom he believed to be the key to finding the Master Emerald however, Tails realized Sonic needed to be warned. Taking inspiration from Sonic, Tails left his village to go help him out.

Film series[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Coming to Earth, Tails appeared from a Ring portal near Green Hills, having tracked Sonic to the area with his Miles Electric. He subsequently took off to find him, hoping that he was not too late.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]

After arriving on Earth in search of Sonic, Tails made his way to Green Hills. There, after night fell, he decided to borrow a police car to look around without being seen, which he would drive using his gadgets. Arriving at the Wachowski residence not long after, Tails rammed Knuckles just as he had pinned Sonic against a tree to interrogate him about the Master Emerald before killing him for being an apprentice to Longclaw of the Echidnas' sworn enemy, the Owls. As Tails told Sonic that he was on his side, Sonic joined him in the car. Although Dr. Robotnik jumped onto the hood of the car, Tails got him off and drove off with Sonic. As a starstruck Tails introduced himself to Sonic, Sonic demanded an explanation for what was going on, prompting Tails to tell him about Knuckles and his quest for the Master Emerald. As Sonic took over the wheel though, Knuckles caught up to them and began tearing the car apart. To get rid of Knuckles, Tails had Sonic drive the car over a cliff, during which he airlifted Sonic out of the car and flew away with him while Knuckles was left stuck on the cliff wall, while the cruiser crashed and exploded on the ground below, totally demolished. Hiding out at Wade's, Sonic and Tails tried figuring out why Knuckles wanted him and the connection Longclaw, whom Sonic heard Knuckles mention, had to the Master Emerald. Recalling seeing an emerald on a map Longclaw had given him, Sonic had him and Tails took a look at it, only for the map to show a holographic message to Sonic from Longclaw. In this message, Longclaw told Sonic of the Master Emerald, which had been hidden on Earth, and that she was now passing her duty of safeguarding it over him. She then instructed Sonic to follow the map to the Master Emerald to ensure that it would not fall into the wrong hands. Sonic and Tails then saw that the map was showing the location of a compass in Siberia that would lead to the Master Emerald. As Sonic opened a Ring portal to Siberia with the intention of bringing Tails with him, Tails tried to back out, insisting that he was not a "field guy." However, he was convinced after Sonic promised to keep him safe with a power-bump.

Shortly after arriving in Siberia, Sonic and Tails got caught in a blizzard, prompting them to seek shelter inside a nearby bar in disguises. Despite an icy reception, the duo got a table for themselves where Tails used his Miles Electric to communicate with the waitress, catching Sonic's interest. As Tails told him about how he had invented his gadgets himself, he would explain how he discovered Sonic with them and began to observe him. However, their conversation was briefly interrupted when Sonic had to sent Tom a text message. Soon after, when Tails' Miles Electric got a translation wrong when he tried to complain about their order to the waitress, they incurred the patrons' anger, who tried having them thrown into the fireplace after they had their alien natures unveiled. However, by looking up Siberian customs on his Miles Electric, Tails managed to invoke Pivonka—a dance-off for settling disputes—in the last moment with a patron, thus forcing the other customers and workers to stand down until the Pivonka was completed. While Sonic wanted to grab the map and just go, the map ended up being claimed by the Pivonka challenger. Having no choice but to participate, Sonic and Tails tried dancing, but could not match the local's dance moves. As Tails began to panic, Sonic got the speakers to play his own music and encouraged Tails to trust him and follow his moves. Thanks to Sonic's moves and music, and holograms that Tails provided with his Miles Electric, the duo won the Pivonka and got the map back, also earning the respect of the patrons as well. As Sonic and Tails later rested, Tails hugged Sonic after hearing that he considered him his friend. This prompted Tails to tell Sonic about his lonely past and how he had inspired him in more ways than one. Calling in a night, Sonic and Tails would spent the night sleeping in the bar before heading out the next day.

Finding an ancient owl temple within a cave in the mountains where the map guided them, Sonic and Tails found inscriptions there which Tails could translate. From them, they learned how the Master Emerald was forged with the 7 Chaos Emeralds by the Echidnas, who would use its power to defeat entire armies. Disapproving of anyone wielding such power however, the Owls stole the Master Emerald, sparking a centuries-long feud with the echidnas. Deeper inside the temple, Sonic and Tails found a statue with slots on it that Sonic used to unlock the compass they needed to find the Master Emerald. Immediately after though, Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik showed up in the Egg Mobile with Badniks. As a fight broke out, the temple began to cave in from the collateral damage. Sonic and Tails, however, were able to escape, with Tails taking the high route while Sonic snowboarded down a mountainside using a Badnik piece as a snowboard. After being unable to reach Sonic for a while due to Badniks and Dr. Robotnik, Tails found Sonic and Knuckles talking to each other. Using this opportunity, Tails threw a gadget at Knuckles that bound him. However, Knuckles quickly broke free. Sonic then tried throwing the compass over to Tails, only for Dr. Robotnik to snatch it in front of him and deploy some missiles that knocked Tails out. An unconscious Tails was then tended to by Sonic, who picked him up and took him down the mountain on his improvised snowboard as an avalanche began approaching them, set off by the explosions from Dr. Robotnik's missiles.

Eventually, Sonic got Tom to open a Ring portal for Tails and himself as Sonic tried to escape the avalanche. Arriving in Hawaii, Tails was dug out of the snow that came with them through the Ring by Sonic, only for the duo to be captured by G.U.N. immediately after and put in cages. The unconscious Tails was then brought into a holding area in the hotel with Sonic and Tom (who tried to save them), but Maddie was able to eventually free them. As Tails was tended to by Maddie however, a green pillar of light emerges in the horizon, a sign that Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik had found the Master Emerald. As Sonic took off to deal with Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik alone, Tails woke up and tried to follow him, but was too weak. As Tom and Maddie tried to help him, Tails warned them of the threat Sonic was heading into. Not long after, Tails managed to acquire the Tornado (which had previously been used to promote the "wedding", which he used to reach Sonic and Knuckles, whom Sonic had convinced to join their side, on an island hundreds of miles away.

Using a Ring, the trio flew back to Green Hills in the Tornado, just in time to see Robotnik finish constructing the Giant Eggman Robot with the power of the Master Emerald that he had stolen. Tails worried if they could trust Knuckles, but Sonic insisted that he was just "mixed up", which led to Tails and Knuckles making up for now. Soon after, Knuckles jumped off the plane to deal with Robotnik alone, leaving Sonic and Tails to approach the Giant Eggman Robot in the Tornado, which came under fire from the robot's missile barrage. While Tails managed to steer the Tornado through the barrage, Sonic got caught by a missile. Now alone, Tails tried using turrets he had installed into the Tornado to attack the Giant Eggman Robot. However, his attacks did nothing, and he was forced to bail from the Tornado when the Giant Eggman Robot's "Stache Smasher" destroyed its wings. Reconvening with Sonic and Knuckles on the Main Street, who had faced similar failures, Sonic convinced them to work together as a team against Robotnik. As the Giant Eggman Robot unleashed Badniks upon them, Tails and his team tried coming up with a plan. As Tails suggested finding the Giant Eggman Robot's weak spot, Sonic realized that he was Robotnik's weak spot: if he could get Robotnik's attention, Tails and Knuckles could sneak into the Giant Eggman Robot and get the Master Emerald back. Beginning their plan, Tails carried Knuckles onto the backside of the Giant Eggman Robot while Sonic lured it out of Green Hills. After then cutting a hole into the cockpit with a laser gadget, Tails used his holograms to distract Robotnik long enough for Knuckles to get into position and knock the Master Emerald out of Robotnik. However, this caused the Giant Eggman Robot to shut down, resulting in Tails and Knuckles sliding out of the robot and landing on the ground hard, causing them to lose consciousness. After recovering, Tails watched, much to his horror, as Sonic and the Wachowskis seemingly got crushed by the Giant Eggman Robot. However, Sonic saved them all by transforming into Super Sonic with the 7 Chaos Emeralds that fell out of the shattered Master Emerald, before destroying the Giant Eggman Robot and defeating Robotnik. As Tails tried approaching Super Sonic however, Knuckles warned them that Sonic had gone mad with power. However, Sonic disproved that by remaining in control, conjuring celebratory chili dogs and relinquishing the Chaos Emeralds. Tails questioned Sonic why he gave up all that power, to which Sonic replied that he still had some growing up to do. Meanwhile, Knuckles reassembled the Master Emerald, although he wondered what he should do now that his quest had been fulfilled. As Tails reminded him and Sonic that of the two ancient orders that sought to safeguard the Master Emerald, Sonic suggested that they formed a new order that included the three of them. With everyone onboard, Tails had them mark their oath with a three-way power-bump.

Sometime later, Tails had a baseball game with Sonic, Knuckles, Tom and Maddie. After Knuckles made them lose their only ball though, they decided to go for ice cream.

Comics[]

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Official Movie Pre-Quill[]

Using his Miles Electric to scan for Sonic's chaos energy signature, Tails used a Ring to travel to Green Hill Zone on Sonic's island. There, he visited Sonic and Longclaw's former home, now abandoned and considered sacred land due to how Longclaw fell here. As Tails mused to himself about the events that had transpired there and Sonic, Tails' Miles Electric found a match for Sonic's chaos energy signature in an old drawing. With this match, Tails was better able to tell where Sonic went as he scanned the galaxy for him. Despite getting some transwarp interference, Tails' modifications allowed him to narrow Sonic's whereabouts down to just a few planets.

Starting his search, Tails first traveled to Marble Zone, only to discover that he was tracking the wrong energy signature when he ran afoul with Rava the Destroyer. Tails, however, managed to evade Rava and escaped into some ruins. There, Tails realized that the interference he was detecting came from someone following him. Suspecting that they were piggybacking on his Ring portals, Tails began using his Rings in rapid succession while continuing his search for Sonic. Traveling to the weird Spring Yard Zone from there, Tails noticed that his pursuers were still following him, and so went to Aquatic Ruin Zone in an attempt to escape his pursuers by going underwater. Regardless, Tails only found some remnants of chaos energy in the ruins and no sign of Sonic there. In an attempt to narrow down his search further, Tails decided to search for Sonic on inhabited planets, and so traveled to Hill Top Zone. Realizing that he had hit another dead end though, Tails consulted his Miles Electric, which detected two strong chaos energy signatures: one on the uninhabited Mushroom Planet and another one on Earth. Detecting that his pursuer was approaching as well, Tails decided to check out his leads as quickly as possible and escaped through another Ring.

Shorts[]

Sonic Drone Home[]

While Tails and his team were on their way to the library to return some books on behalf of Maddie, Sonic had them take a detour to Green Hills Junkyard in order to investigate some strange noises. Soon after arriving there, a scared Tails and his crew discovered Unit, a self-aware Badnik in the process of upgrading himself in order to conquer the world. Before Tails could be given instructions by Sonic however, Knuckles tried attacking Unit, only to get ejected from the junkyard by him. Afterwards, Sonic and Tails came under fire by Unit. While Sonic fought back, Tails tried to save Sonic with a gadget of his that fired bolas when Unit blinded Sonic, only for Unit to deflect Tails' shot at Sonic. Tails then tried to fly Sonic away from Unit, only for Unit to throw them both into the ground. Desperate, Tails pleaded Sonic to do something, but since Sonic was still tied up, Tails suggested he tried talking to Unit. Surprisingly, Sonic convinced Unit to pursue his own passion, which was poetry. Sonic and Tails would subsequently listen to Unit's poems until Knuckles returned and smashed Unit's body. Rummaging through Unit's wreckage, Tails found Unit's core module, which was still operational. Tails then asked Sonic if they could adopt Unit, which Sonic permitted, although he would be Tails' responsibility. As Knuckles showed his disapproval of Unit, Tails assured him that he was an artist now, before departing with him and Sonic.

TV shows[]

Knuckles: "The Warrior"[]

Tails and Sonic watch a repair crew leave after Knuckles accidentally scared them off, having done so three times prior, the former complaining about how the house hasn't been fully repaired and the hole in the wall is a nuisance at night when Maddie comes over and talks to the two about Knuckles before allowing Sonic to talk to Knuckles later, until they find the latter on the roof with Ozzie. Tails and Sonic come onto the roof before the former helps get Ozzie off the roof while Sonic has a chat with Knuckles. Later, Tails follows Sonic to the living room, which Knuckles had turned into an arena before attempting to pit Ozzie against a mailman, leading to Maddie grounding Knuckles. While cleaning up the mess, Tails discovered some parts of the Wachowski truck was used to build the throne Knuckles had made.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

"Growing up, I didn't have any friends. Everyone in my village thought my two tails were weird.""Hey, I know that feeling."
―Tails and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]

Miles Prower was born on a distant planet and resided in a judgmental village, of which its villagers ridiculed Prower's genetic extra tail, hence his nickname "Tails." His abnormality prevented him from making friends with anyone, and as the villagers grew more estranged upon Tails' tails, Tails developed a sense of insecurity.

Tracking Sonic[]

"You need to find him, Tails. No matter what."
―Tails[src]

When Sonic the Hedgehog created an abnormally large chaos energy blast, Tails' computer showed him footage of it. Since then, Tails watched the battle between Sonic and Doctor Ivo Robotnik and later their subsequent adventures. Enlightened that he was not the weirdest person in the galaxy, Tails created the Miles Electric in order to find Sonic.

Tails arrived on Sonic's Island in an attempt to find Sonic the Hedgehog, revisiting the now sacred home of the late Longclaw for a clue. Upon scanning a drawing made by Sonic, he was able to construct a rough pattern of places Sonic could've gone to.

Through ring portals, he arrived at the Marble Zone, where he accidentally trespassed Rava the Destroyer's domain. He also noted someone was following him, so he traveled faster, passing through Spring Yard, Aquatic Ruins, and Hill Top. He then stopped and noticed two chaos energy spikes stemming from a Mushroom Planet and a "backwater planet" named Earth. Tails quickly escaped through a ring. Tails arrived on Earth after tracking Sonic to the planet, hoping that he is not too late to warn him of the people in pursuit of him.

Saving Sonic[]

"Come on! Get in! I'm on your side!""I'm sorry, who are you?... Y'know what? It doesn't matter."
―Tails and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]

By the evening, Tails remarked he should not be seen and used standard human transport as a sort of disguise. Upon arriving at Sonic the Hedgehog's location, he hit the threat, Knuckles the Echidna, with the Green Hills Sheriff's Department vehicle to save Sonic and took down the vengeful Robotnik, who was now referred to as Eggman. He thus drove him away from Knuckles while partially explaining to Sonic what was currently happening. Once Knuckles found himself on top of the car, Tails had the idea to drive it off a cliff, propelling Sonic upwards with his twin tails. The two eventually settled in the "Wade Cave," Wade Whipple's garage.

War for the Master Emerald[]

Hiding in the "Wade Cave"[]

"Don't worry, I got your back. I'm not gonna let anything happen to you... It's a power bump. On Earth, it means an unbreakable promise.""...Okay, I'm in!"
Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails[src]

In Wade Whipple's garage, Tails and Sonic took shelter from the forces of Eggman and sought to find out the connection between Knuckles' search for the Master Emerald and Longclaw. Sonic noted that there was a new emerald on the Safe Worlds Map he was unfamiliar with. As he explained this, Tails, Sonic, and Wade witnessed Longclaw's prerecorded holographic message emitting from the map. Longclaw revealed that the emerald was hidden on Earth, in Siberia, and that she left the duty of guarding said emerald to Sonic. Sonic opened a ring to Siberia with the intention of Tails coming along, although Tails was a little weary of going on such adventures. Sonic promised to protect him, sealing his promise with a fist bump.

Visiting Siberia[]

"Tails, what's a 'Pivonka?'""It's a Siberian custom to resolve disputes. If we win, they let us go. If we lose..."
Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails[src]

Tails and Sonic the Hedgehog unfortunately found themselves caught in a heavy snowstorm, with Tails unable to locate anything. Suggesting the possibility of turning back, Sonic assured him they could go inside a nearby restaurant. They put on disguises as they entered the restaurant, where they noted various potential dangers and evil senses. Despite this, the two sat at a table and ordered beef stew, as translated by Tails' Miles Electric. Impressed, Sonic questioned where he got such gadgets, and Tails replied that he made them himself, labeling it as "his thing." He also told him he found Sonic through his inventions and mentioned that he couldn't let Sonic suffer the danger Knuckles brought.

Once a different meal was brought to Tails, he requested a reorder with his translator. But the translation offended the waitress, eventually resulting in the entire bar growing suspicious of the two. They took off their disguises and were met with perplexed stares from the patrons, who then planned to throw them into the fire. Tails, hesitant but determined, searched for Siberian customs and yelled "Pivonka," invoking total silence. The patrons revealed a dance battle champion who challenged them, and Tails and Sonic learned "Pivonka" was an activity used to resolve disputes, needing to win in order to escape death.

As the dance battle ensued, Sonic and Tails were disbanding from the Safe Worlds Map and unable to perform traditional dances. This led Sonic to alter the music to a song that was easy to dance to. Winning the dance battle, Tails and Sonic received praise from everyone and also retrieved the map. Later that night, Tails recalled how amazing the recent events were, with Sonic telling him to stick around so he could learn more about Earth. Tails, hearing the mention of the word "pal," was delighted, as his rough childhood involved having no friends. After explaining how Sonic inspired him, Tails slept on the floor, covering Sonic with his twin tails.

Escape from Eggman and Knuckles[]

"Let's split up. You go high, I go low.""Right."
Sonic the Hedgehog and Tails[src]

The following day, Tails and Sonic set out to the mountains of Siberia using Tails' flight abilities, eventually entering a cave. Inside, they learned of the tale of the War for the Master Emerald, translated by Tails' Miles Electric. After Sonic turned tiles on an Owl statue, the two received the Master Emerald Compass. When Eggman and Knuckles arrived and fired a missile, Sonic threw it back, disbalancing the statue to create an exit outside the cave. Sonic ordered Tails to fly high while he snowboarded, with Tails constantly followed by Eggman and his violent Badniks as he tried to help Sonic.

During Sonic's confrontation with Knuckles, Tails assumed Sonic was in trouble and prevented Knuckles from injuring him further by using a mechanical rope. Tails was told to reach for the compass, but Robotnik caught it instead, exploding missiles near Tails, causing him to black out. An avalanche then stormed down upon Sonic and his unconscious friend, leaving Sonic to drag Tails along to the safe island of Hawaii with the help of Tom.

Crashing Rachel's Wedding[]

"We have to help him. You don't know what he's up against."
―Tails to Tom Wachowski and Maddie Wachowski[src]

Blasting through the now interrupted supposed wedding of Rachel and Randall Handel, Tails and Sonic were held prisoner by the federal anti-alien force; the Guardian Units of Nations.

Tails later awakened from his blackout as soon as Sonic left to fight Knuckles and Eggman, warning his saviors, the Wachowskis, to stop them, accusing them of not knowing the potential danger that lay ahead of him.

A New Order[]

Battle Against the Giant Eggman Robot[]

"So we make our stand here on the field of battle.""As a team!""This is it. This is our moment!"
Knuckles the Echidna, Tails and Sonic the Hedgehog[src]

Having returned for Sonic with the Tornado, a plane he found on Hawaii, he brought him and the newly reformed Knuckles to Green Hills, a town facing the threat of Eggman's Giant Eggman Robot, now that the mad doctor had obtained the Master Emerald's excellent power. With the biplane, Tails avoided incoming missiles fired by the enemy, although Sonic was hit by one. He fired bullets at the mech, but they were ineffective. The plane's wings got destroyed by the robot's 'Stache Smasher move, allowing it to crash as Tails flew away.

The three grouped together, deciding to coordinate their attacks and plans through efficient teamwork. Suggesting a true plan, Tails proposed the idea of discovering Eggman's weak spot while everyone battled Badniks, triggering Sonic's idea of centering Robotnik's attention on him, the weak spot, as Tails and Knuckles rid Eggman of his might. Following the plan, Tails flew Knuckles and himself inside the robot. Tails duplicated himself via holograms, distracting Eggman so Knuckles could extract the Master Emerald with one extreme punch. As the robot tumbled, so did Tails and Knuckles, along with the emerald.

Although a distressed Tails and a shocked Knuckles stared upon a seemingly crushed Sonic, Tom and Maddie, Super Sonic, destroyed the mechanism and sent Eggman off to his demise. As Sonic returned to normal, Tails questioned the reason why Sonic gave up universe-reigning levels of power, and he was answered that Sonic needed to grow up more and that he liked being a kid. With Knuckles reforming the Chaos Emeralds into its usual state, he pondered what to do with it. They all agreed to guard it, like the former warriors and orders. Tails and the others sealed their promise with a friendly power bump.

Playing Baseball[]

"Alright! Give him the heat, Tails!""Hope you're ready for my fastball!""Your fastball will be dishonoured, and so will you, Fox."
Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails and Knuckles the Echidna[src]

The new order of heroes and the Wachowskis later played baseball at the Green Hills Baseball Field, with Tails on the mound. He threw his confident fastball, which was hit by Knuckles' power bump. Even though he claimed the batter's performance to be unfair, Knuckles proceeded to conquer all the bases. Maddie treated the three to ice cream, which invoked enthusiasm in all of them. Picked up by Knuckles, he, Tails, and Sonic entered Tom's truck, off to taste ice cream.

Battle at the Green Hills Junkyard[]

"Poor guy. He wasn't trying to kill us anymore. He was reciting a poem."
―Tails[src]

One day, Tails and Knuckles followed Sonic, expecting to go to the library, but Sonic actually led them to the Green Hills Junkyard. After Whipple reported strange noises coming from this very scrapyard, the team spotted a Badnik collecting parts for an upgrade. Sonic suggested a plan where Tails took up a flanking position, but Knuckles immediately attacked the drone and was ultimately defeated. Sonic took Tails by his hand and ran around the junkyard as Unit spotted the group. As Sonic was blinded by smoke from Unit's parts, Tails launched a bolas that wrapped around Sonic's legs. Though Tails tried to fly Sonic away, they both got slammed onto the ground by Unit. Tails told Sonic to talk to it, which led to the robot's vulnerability, reading poets to the two until sunset. Knuckles returned to attack Unit, but was saved by Tails. Begging to keep it, Sonic agreed, and left with Tails to get chilidogs.

Settling Down[]

"Do you think the house is ever gonna get fixed? The living room is getting pretty cold at night with that giant hole in the wall."
―Tails to Sonic the Hedgehog[src]

A few months later, after moving into the Wachowski Residence with Sonic and Knuckles, Tails and Sonic arrived outside to see yet another construction crew ambushed by Knuckles. Concerned about Knuckles' behavior and mannerisms, Tails pondered if the hole in the living room is ever going to get fixed, noting that the room is getting cold at night. When approached by Maddie Wachowski, Sonic volunteered to have a talk with Knuckles and notice him on the roof, where he is trying to train Ozzie. Once getting on to the roof with Sonic, Tails beckoned the dog to follow him back downstairs as Sonic has his talk with Knuckles.

The next morning, Tails and Sonic are met by Knuckles seated on a throne made from scraps when coming to take their breakfast. Knuckles stated the throne designates his role as "family champion," only to be claimed by one who defeats him in trial by combat. Tails, confused, asked what this actually meant, to which Knuckles invited them to see the living room, which has now been turned into a gladiator pit. Knuckles was then grounded for his actions, though he did not know what that meant. Sonic and Maddie clarified it, with Tails stating that he cannot leave his room to embark on quests. After Knuckles left to the attic, Maddie noted that she's going to be late for work, to which Tails added that parts of their car had been used in favor of building the throne.

Sonic the Hedgehog (2020)[]

Tails appears on Earth somewhere near Green Hills at the end of the film. He has apparently been tracking Sonic the Hedgehog using a handheld device and hopes he is not too late to warn him about an approaching threat.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022)[]

Tails arrives on Earth and attempts to track down Sonic after picking up his signal on his Miles Electric. After arriving in Green Hills shortly after nightfall, he decides to find transportation to avoid revealing himself, and chooses Green Hills Deputy Sheriff Wade Whipple's Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor patrol cruiser as his vehicle. He later uses it to save Sonic when he is attacked by Knuckles the Echidna and Dr. Robotnik, driving the two of them to safety while explaining the situation about why Knuckles is after Sonic, revealing that Knuckles believes that Sonic, as Longclaw's protégé, has knowledge of the whereabouts of the Master Emerald. Knuckles soon catches up and begins tearing the cruiser apart, but Tails drives it off a cliff, forcing Knuckles to dig into the cliff face to save himself while the cruiser crashes and explodes on the ground below, while Tails airlifts Sonic to safety and escapes, taking refuge at Wade's house. While at Wade's house, Tails and Sonic discovers a final holographic message from Longclaw in Sonic’s map, which entrusts her duty with safeguarding the Master Emerald to him and offering her final belief and wishes that he will succeed and make her proud before the message vanishes, and Sonic's map has changed to show the way to the compass that will lead to the Master Emerald. Despite Tails' hesitance, he agrees to aid Sonic, and they head to Siberia to find the compass. Taking refuge at a Siberian restaurant, despite the cold, hostile welcome from the Russian patrons inside, Sonic and Tails take some time to talk, with Tails revealing that when Sonic unleashed his chaos energy at the baseball field previously, this helped Tails locate him so he could help him. However, things go south when Tails' Miles Electric accidentally mistranslates what Sonic and Tails say from English to Russian, angering the patrons, who threaten to throw them into the fireplace after exposing them, before Tails calls out the Russian word for a dance-off in desperation to save his and Sonic's lives. Hearing the word, the patrons hesitate, and agree to let Sonic and Tails face the local champ for a chance to be spared being incinerated. Despite having some trouble at first, Sonic and Tails are able to use their smarts and tech to not only beat the champ and win, but gain the respect of the patrons as well, who grant them quarters for the night at the tavern. That night, Tails asks Sonic if he really thinks of him as his pal, to which Sonic says that he does. Touched by his words, Tails hugs him and reveals that growing up wasn't easy for him because everyone in his village thought that his twin tails were weird, but Sonic has shown him that being weird isn't so bad. Sonic and Tails go to sleep by the fireplace, their friendship having grown into somewhat of a brotherly bond. The next day, they head to the ancient owl temple where the compass is held. No sooner has Sonic solved the puzzle and they get the compass, they are confronted by Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik, with an army of Badniks with them. Tails escapes separately from Sonic, but returns to help him against Knuckles when he had Sonic cornered on a cliff, though Tails' intervention causes Knuckles to believe Sonic deceived him as Sonic had just revealed that he and Knuckles lost everything on that fateful day when the echidnas attacked Sonic and Longclaw, causing Knuckles to think he had found a kindred spirit in Sonic before Tails interrupted them. Sonic tries to give Tails the compass, but Dr. Robotnik intercepts it, before wounding Tails with a missile, which triggers an avalanche, forcing Sonic to save Tails instead of getting the compass back. With the avalanche bearing down on them, Sonic called Tom to have him open an escape ring portal to Hawaii, allowing Sonic and Tails to survive, but Tails is still unconscious. Moments later, Sonic is captured by Commander Walters and his Guardian Units of Nations undercover agents, who take him, Tails, and Tom into custody. However, they are rescued by Maddie Wachowski, but Tails is still in bad shape. Feeling responsible for nearly getting Tails killed, Sonic refuses any help as he heads to stop Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik from getting the Master Emerald alone. Tails recovers and tries to follow, but is still too wounded to help. He later arrives in the Tornado to pick up Sonic and Knuckles after he recovers fully, but after Dr. Robotnik had already escaped with the Master Emerald. Taking everyone back to Green Hills, they arrive just as Dr. Robotnik finishes building the Giant Eggman Robot using his newfound powers from the Master Emerald. Tails tries to engage the robot with the Tornado, blasting its heavy armor with machineguns he installed in the plane, but Agent Stone mortally wounds the Tornado with the robot's "Stache Smasher", forcing Tails to bail out before the Tornado crashes to the ground, completely destroyed. Working out a plan with Sonic and Knuckles, Tails is able to initially fool Dr. Robotnik with doubles of himself as he infiltrated the robot's head, allowing Knuckles to punch the Master Emerald out of Dr. Robotnik, powering down the robot, but causing Tails and Knuckles to fall out. When they recover, they watch helplessly as the robot, now running on auxiliary power, appears to crush Tom, Maddie, and Sonic underfoot. However, Sonic had absorbed the Chaos Emeralds beforehand, allowing him to become Super Sonic, saving Tom and Maddie, and taking down the Giant Eggman Robot all on his own. After proving he's still himself and in full control of his super state, Sonic releases the Chaos Emeralds and scatters them to unknown locations, explaining to a concerned Tails that he still needs to do some growing up before he can wield their power again. After Knuckles reforms the Master Emerald, he agrees to form a team with Sonic and Tails to guard it, sharing a power-bump with them to seal the deal. After that, Tails and Knuckles move in with Sonic and the Wachowskis, becoming like brothers to Sonic.

Knuckles[]

A few months later, after moving into the Wachowski Residence with Sonic and Knuckles, Tails tries to help Sonic and Maddie of getting Knuckles adjusted to his new life on Earth. He and Sonic went outside and sees that Knuckles attacked another construction crew after a mistaking them for attacking the house. Concerned about this, Tails wondered if the hole in the living room is ever going to get fixed, noting that the room is getting cold at night. Once getting on to the roof with Sonic, Tails beckoned Ozzie the dog to follow him back downstairs as Sonic has his talk with Knuckles. The next morning, while coming to get breakfast, Tails and Sonic sees that Knuckles modified the living room to a gladiator pit. This results Knuckles into getting ground for his actions, although he's not familiar with it. Tails, Sonic, and Maddie clarified it for him. After Knuckles left to the attic, Maddie realizes that she's going to be late for work and Tails informed her that Knuckles used parts of their car for the throne.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (2024)[]

To be added.

Powers And Abilities[]

  • Flight: Similar to his video game counterpart, Tails' main power is his ability to fly by rotating his two tails like a propeller. However, unlike his video game counterpart, Tails is never shown getting tired after flying for a set amount of time.
    • Superhuman Speed Flight: Compared to his video game counterpart, Tails is shown to fly at a higher speed. This is shown at the end of the first film and in his first appearance in the second film when he jumps off a cliff and flies away to search for Sonic. Tails has even being shown to keep up with Sonic at speed even though he is not as fast as him.
  • Genius-Level Intelligence: Tails is extremely smart. He is able to build and engineer advance technology and is also capable of operating Earth vehicles with relative ease despite having no prior experience.
    • Master Engineer: Tails is very good at inventing things, as shown by the multiple gadgets in his backpack.
  • Master Marksman: Tails is skilled in marksmanship, he was able to threw a electric rope at Knuckles from afar and later used a laser gun with accuracy against Eggman's Badniks.
  • Expert Pilot: Despite his ability to fly on his own, Tails is shown an adept at piloting a biplane, being able to maneuver and avoid a missile assault.

Relationships[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

Tails: Growing up, I didn't have any friends. Everyone in my village thought my two tails were weird.

Sonic: Hey, I know that feeling.

Tails: But then I saw you. The fastest creature in the galaxy. You were weird, too. But you were a legend. That made me think... maybe being weird isn't so bad. You inspired me; to leave my village; to find you and help you in your mission.— Miles "Tails" Prower and Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 After learning about Sonic the Hedgehog's existence and watching his heroic exploits, Tails came to idolize the hedgehog and spy on him to learn more about him. To Tails, Sonic was a weird individual like himself, yet he managed to become a legend. This, in turn, inspired Tails to see his own weirdness in a positive light. However, Tails' idolization of Sonic made him develop a slight obsession of him, to the point that he memorized that Sonic prefers bubble baths to showers. Nonetheless, his devotion to Sonic would prompt him to set and help Sonic when he learned that Knuckles was after him. From the very beginning, Tails was greatly determined to help Sonic with his mission, even in spite of all the threats he faced while trying track him down. When first meeting him, Tails was very respectful to Sonic and often complimented the hedgehog for his various skills. At first, he felt uncertain when Sonic wanted his company on his mission to find the Master Emerald, but took solace in the knowledge that Sonic made an "unbreakable" promise to protect him. In their dance battle in Siberia, Sonic noticed Tails' tendency to be easily overwhelmed and encouraged the fox to follow his lead so that they could both shine. After this, Sonic comforted Tails in his belief that they were both weird, but that it was a good thing. From there, Tails became less of a fanboy and more of a true friend to Sonic, who in turn became very attached to Tails. Tails has shown great loyalty to Sonic, trying to go after him when he left to fight Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik alone, despite being injured. After their first adventure together, Sonic and Tails have grown to care for one another very deeply, to the point of a brotherly bond.

Knuckles the Echidna[]

Despite not personally knowing Knuckles the Echidna, Tails seemed to be quite knowledgeable of his past and goals. He initially saw him as a threat, as him traveling to Earth to find Sonic the Hedgehog inspired Tails to go and try to find the hedgehog first. When Sonic decided to trust Knuckles in order to stop Dr. Robotnik after he absorbed the Master Emerald, Tails was initially hesitant to trust the latter but apologized to him for ramming him with a police car. Despite this, the two seem to be on good terms now, as they managed to play baseball with each with competitive teasing and Knuckles even picked him up toward the Wachowski's truck for celebratory ice cream.

Dr. Robotnik[]

Even though he did not know Dr. Robotnik personally, Tails spied on Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr. Robotnik's first battle, calling him "crazy mustache guy". After saving Sonic from Knuckles the Echidna, Tails met Dr. Robotnik, and was disgusted by his wild attitude. During their search for the Master Emerald, Tails and Dr. Robotnik became enemies during their mountain fight in Siberia. When Tails later used his hologram technology to confuse Dr. Robotnik inside his Giant Eggman Robot, Dr. Robotnik considered Tails to be somewhat intelligent.

What Makes Him Pure Good?[]

  • He is always thoughtful, witty, funny and kind to everyone around him.
  • He idolizes Sonic for his heroism and bravery.
  • When learning that Knuckles was hunting Sonic down, he decides to step in and rescues Sonic from him and Robotnik by driving a police car.
  • He is initially reluctant at the idea of finding the Master Emerald because he doesn't feel like he's up to it, but decided to join in after Sonic convinces him.
  • Although he had been spying on Sonic with his gadgets before meeting him (to the point where he knew that he preferred bubble baths over showers), Tails is rather clueless, so he didn't know that it was wrong.
  • He helps Sonic win a dance-off by dancing to "Uptown Funk".
  • He hugs Sonic after he accepts him as his best friend and begins to regard him as the brother he never had.
  • While he tries to restrain Knuckles when he and Sonic were exchanging backstories, which caused Knuckles to think that the hedgehog was tricking him, this was not Tails' intention as he was simply trying to protect Sonic.
  • He arrives on the Tornado to pick Sonic and Knuckles up from the island.
  • While initially wary of Knuckles joining them, Tails quickly decides to trust him when told he's a complicated, but ultimately good person, able to see him as an ally and eventually a friend.
  • He, Sonic and Knuckles fight against Robotnik and his forces.
  • Was horrified when it seemed Robotnik killed Sonic, Tom and Maddie by stepping on them in his giant robot, and was incredibly relieved when it turned out that wasn't the case as Sonic transformed into Super Sonic in the nick of time.
  • He fixes a Badnik and befriends it.
  • He lacks Sonic's mischievous behavior and Knuckle's aggressive attitude.

Trivia[]

  • Spanish is the only language where Tails does not share his voice actor with his video game counterpart (in his case, Graciela Molina at the time of the film's release).
    • This originally also applied to German in the first film, though he would later be recasted by his current German voice actress from the games in the second film onwards.
    • This also applies to the Brazilian Portuguese dub if Sonic Prime is counted (in his case, Jéssica Vieira).
    • Tails is also the only character in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series to be portrayed by the same English, Japanese, and German voice actors as his video game counterpart.
      • This originally applied to European French as well, until Sonic's French voice actor from the games voiced him in the Knuckles series.
  • Colleen O'Shaughnessey was initially uncredited in the English version of Sonic the Hedgehog, but was later credited in digital versions and home media releases of the film, albeit with her name spelled incorrectly.
  • In the first film, when Tails appeared out of the Ring, only one of his tails were visible (possibly he fluffed them into one) and he did not have his backpack and his shoes didn't have any laces. When the exact same scene is reanimated in the the sequel, both of his tails are visible and he bears his backpack, and his shoes are given laces. It's unknown why his shoes were given those additions.
  • Pat Casey claimed that he is not certain whether Tails comes from the same planet as Sonic and Knuckles or that if he comes from an entirely different one.
  • Sonic Drone Home is the only time where this incarnation of Tails is not voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and he was instead voiced by Alicyn Packard.
  • Pat Casey said and revealed that, Sonic and Tails were originally going to stumble upon a Big the Cat skeleton in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
  • In the video game series, Miles "Tails" Prower is a cowardly genius ridiculed for his twin tails. Rescued by Sonic the Hedgehog from a pair of bullies, Tails became his idol's best friend as they ventured about, growing more confident and brave as he occasionally stopped Doctor Eggman's latest plan.
  • The device Tails carries upon his arrival on Earth is the Miles Electric, Tails' handheld device of the same name in the video game series, as confirmed by Tyson Hesse.
  • In the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails possessed a singular tail that bifurcated, enabling flight. However, in subsequent installments starting from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Tails consistently retained his characteristic twin tails.
  • At the post credits scene of the first film, only one of his tails were visible (its possible he fluffed them into one) and he did not wear a backpack, and his shoes also don't have any laces (just like his game counterpart), however in the reanimated version of the scene in the second film both of his tails are actually visible and he bears a backpack and his shoes are given laces and a brighter shade of red. Its unknown why his shoes were given some slight redesign.
  • Much like Sonic's the identity of his biological family is currently unknown.
  • Tails is the only character in the Sonic the Hedgehog film to be portrayed by the same English, Japanese, and French voice actors as his video game counterpart, though Colleen O'Shaughnessey was initially uncredited in the English version.
    • O'Shaughnessey was later credited in the digital version of the film, albeit with her name spelled incorrectly.
    • Colleen O'Shaughnessey previously voiced Tails in Sonic Boom, both the show & the video games.
    • In Italian, Tails shares this distinction with Sonic.
  • Tails can be seen as the polar opposite and foil to Dr. Robotnik - both are geniuses who were bullied and ostracized in their childhood, and both know Sonic very well. Though whereas Tails never gives up of trying to have new friends and is a sweet-natured and selfless fox who always remains loyal to his friends, Dr. Robotnik rejects humanity altogether, becoming a selfish and misanthropic megalomaniac who is willing to betray even his closest friends and allies (except for Agent Stone, but even then, he doesn't treat the latter very well), and who considers everyone else around him as inferior and basic. Also, whereas Tails idolizes Sonic, Dr. Robotnik despises him.
  • Before Colleen O'Shaughnessey was cast to reprise her voice role as Tails in the film, Katy Perry, Chlöe Grace Moretz, Anna Faris, Jacob Tremblay, and even Tom Holland was rumored to voice him.
  • In the first film of Sonic the Hedgehog, most fans were disappointed because Tails or neither of Sonic's friends didn't appear for a large role after having grown attach for Tails. Especially it proves them right when during the baseball incident Sonic seem lonely without any friends to hang out with.
    • It is possibly because the director wanted to focus on Sonic and Tom Wachowski's first before introducing Tails, especially believing it was based on the first Sonic video game which Tails wasn't featured in due to not having been conceived as a character yet.
  • As now living with the Wachowski family, he's like a youngest brother towards Sonic and Knuckles.
  • Pat Casey claimed in a podcast interview that he is uncertain weather he comes from the same planet (Mobius) as both Sonic and Knuckles, or if that he hails from an entirely different one.
